ONGOING PROJECT
Contracting with the City of West Liberty, I am building
out 18 months of programming curriculum for the
recreation department. These programs include a detailed program instructions, goals, materials list and
supplemental resources needed. Each program is crafted
with the community’s culture and needs in mind. This
allows the recreation department to provide meaningful opportunities for the community without taxing their
limited time and resources.
While working for the Iowa Department of Education (formerly Iowa College Aid), elementary educators spoke about the need for an age appropriate lessons on college and career. I crafted this guide in response to the need so elementary professionals had plug and play college readiness interventions. It includes lesson plans, event planning, and school environment suggestions. The lesson plans are aligned with state required Individualized Career and Academic Plans and District Career and Academic Plans.
During GEAR UP Iowa 2.0 we saw 2.5 percentage points of growth in FAFSA completition rates, despite the pandemic, in 2020. This guide was crafted to assist other schools in increasing their rates as well. It includes an overview of FAFSA rates in Iowa, equity issues, suggested events, how to troubleshoot, and an array of resources schools can use.
